Kids Spotted Sitting on Moving Alphard Roof in Ipoh: Police Launch Investigation Under Child Act
Quick Summary: Ipoh Sunroof Incident
- The Incident: A viral video captured two young girls sitting on the roof of a moving Toyota Alphard via the sunroof along the Meru exit toward Jalan Jelapang-Simpang Pulai in Ipoh.
- Police Action: Ipoh PDRM has initiated an active trace to identify the vehicle owner, despite no formal report being lodged yet.
- Legal Consequences: Authorities confirmed the case is being investigated under the Child Act 2001 for endangering minors on public roads.
Ipoh police are currently tracking down the owner of a luxury MPV after a video went viral on social media showing two young girls sitting on the vehicle's roof through its sunroof while it was moving along a busy road.
Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Najib Hamzah, confirmed that while no formal police report has been lodged regarding the incident, authorities have initiated an active search to locate the vehicle's owner.
"We will identify them. If it is confirmed that they are children, we will investigate the matter under the Child Act 2001," he stated when contacted.
Legal Reminder
Under the Child Act 2001, exposing a child to physical danger or neglecting their safety can carry severe penalties, including substantial fines and imprisonment for parents or guardians.
The viral footage, recorded by a concerned motorist, shows two young girls emerging from the sunroof and sitting on top of the moving luxury Toyota Alphard. The dangerous stunt reportedly occurred starting from the Meru exit heading toward Jalan Jelapang-Simpang Pulai, adjacent to the North-South Expressway (PLUS).
The video sparked widespread outrage across social media platforms, with netizens strongly condemning the adult driver and guardians for allowing such reckless behavior that put young lives at severe risk.
Road Safety Tip
Sunroofs are designed exclusively for light and ventilation. Allowing passengers—especially children—to protrude or sit through a sunroof while a vehicle is in motion violates basic vehicle safety protocols and increases the risk of fatal injuries during sudden braking.
