Kuching Gets Zeekr's First East Malaysia Store, With More Coming Next Year

Some Sarawakians were apparently already buying Zeekrs before the brand even had an official store in the state. Now, Zeekr is finally following its customers east.

Zeekr Malaysia has officially opened its first retail presence in East Malaysia, with a new pop-up store at The Spring Kuching, Sarawak. The opening also marks the beginning of a bigger expansion planned for the state.

And this isn't where Zeekr plans to stop.

The EV brand is targeting a permanent Zeekr Space Kuching (1S Centre) and a dedicated Zeekr Service Centre Kuching in Q1 2027, giving Sarawak customers proper sales and aftersales support closer to home.

For Now, There's A Zeekr Pop-Up At The Spring Kuching

The new pop-up is located at The Spring Kuching and is being operated with Sarawak automotive partner Ghee Hua Group of Companies.

Ghee Hua signed its dealer agreement with Zeekr in July 2026 at the automaker's headquarters in Hangzhou, China, with the partnership intended to support Zeekr's expansion and premium EV adoption in Sarawak.

Customers visiting the Kuching pop-up can currently get up close with Zeekr's Malaysian model range, including the Zeekr 7X, Zeekr 009 and Zeekr X.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Sarawak Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government YB Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, alongside Kuching South mayor YB Dato Wee Hong Seng.

There was even a drive-off ceremony for new Zeekr owners in Sarawak.

Sarawakians Were Already Buying Zeekrs Anyway

Here's perhaps the more interesting part. Zeekr only established its Malaysian presence in December 2024, but the company says it had already surpassed 5,000 owners nationwide by August 2026. And some of those customers were apparently from Sarawak.

According to Zeekr Malaysia, it had already been seeing interest from Sarawak customers, including early adopters who bought a Zeekr before the company had an official retail presence in the state.

That gives the Kuching expansion a little more context. Rather than entering Sarawak completely cold, Zeekr is establishing a physical presence in a market where it says customers already exist.

The Proper Zeekr Centre Comes Next

A pop-up store is useful for checking out the cars, but anyone buying an EV in East Malaysia is probably going to have another question:

What happens when the car needs servicing?

That's where Zeekr's 2027 expansion becomes more important.

The company says the pop-up represents the first step in its longer-term East Malaysia plans, with both a permanent Zeekr Space Kuching 1S Centre and Zeekr Service Centre Kuching targeted to open in Q1 2027.

In the meantime, Zeekr says its Mobile Service programme is already operating across East Malaysia, providing maintenance and vehicle inspection services to customers in the region. That aftersales expansion arguably matters just as much as opening another showroom.

Zeekr's Malaysian Footprint Is Getting Bigger

Zeekr has expanded fairly quickly since arriving in Malaysia less than two years ago. The brand currently sells the Zeekr X, 009 and 7X locally, and the Kuching opening pushes its retail footprint into East Malaysia for the first time. The brand says it has now delivered to more than 5,000 Malaysian owners.

The Zeekr 7X is also a model we've recently spent five days testing in everyday Malaysian conditions, while the Kuching pop-up now gives Sarawak buyers their first official local opportunity to experience it alongside the X and 009.

And judging by Zeekr's claim that Sarawakians were already buying its EVs before it had a store there, perhaps it was about time.
