Reviews

Summary

The BMW iX2 is a five-seat electric Sports Activity Coupé offered in Malaysia solely as the xDrive30 M Sport, priced from RM283,800 on-the-road without insurance. Fully imported from Germany, it combines coupé-inspired styling with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain producing 230 KW or 313 PS and 494 NM.

The standard vehicle warranty is two years with unlimited mileage, while BMW Repair Inclusive can extend coverage to five years with unlimited mileage. The high-voltage battery is covered for eight years or 160,000 KM.

Interior

Dashboard

The driver-oriented dashboard is centred around the BMW Curved Display, combining a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen. Aluminium Hexacube trim, ambient lighting and an anthracite headliner reinforce the M Sport atmosphere.

Centre Console

The floating centre armrest incorporates the drive selector and frequently used vehicle controls. Removing the traditional iDrive rotary controller creates additional open storage beneath the console, although more functions must be accessed through the touchscreen.

Instrument Cluster

The 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster displays speed, battery information, navigation and driver-assistance status. A full-colour head-up display projects key information directly into the driver’s forward field of vision.

Seats

Powered front sports seats are upholstered in Veganza synthetic leather or a combination of Veganza and Alcantara, depending on the selected interior. The heavily shaped front seats provide additional support, while the rear backrests fold in a practical 40:20:40 arrangement.

Space

The iX2 provides comfortable accommodation for five occupants and benefits from a largely flat rear floor. Rear legroom is suitable for adults, although the sloping coupé roof provides less headroom than the more upright BMW iX1.

Steering Functions

The M leather multifunction steering wheel provides controls for media, calls, voice commands, driver assistance and the digital displays. Tilt-and-telescopic adjustment allows the steering position to be adapted to the driver.

Storage Space

Storage areas include the glovebox, large door pockets, front centre-console compartments and an open tray beneath the floating armrest. Folding the three-part rear backrest allows longer items to be carried while retaining one or two rear passenger seats.

Cup Holders

Two cup holders are provided for the front occupants, while another two are incorporated into the folding rear centre armrest. Bottle holders are also available within the door pockets.

Charging Ports

The cabin provides two USB connections at the front and another two for rear passengers. A ventilated wireless smartphone charging tray helps prevent compatible devices from becoming excessively warm during charging.

Build Quality

Veganza upholstery, aluminium trim, soft-touch surfaces and finely grained dashboard material create a suitably premium environment. The cabin’s presentation is modern and sporty, although its touchscreen-heavy control layout may require familiarisation.

Boot Space

The powered tailgate opens to 525 litres of luggage capacity. Folding the rear seats increases the available volume to 1,400 litres, giving the iX2 useful practicality despite its sloping roofline.

Exterior

Body Dimensions

The iX2 measures 4,554 MM long, 1,845 MM wide and 1,560 MM tall, with a 2,692-MM wheelbase. Width increases to 2,104 MM with the exterior mirrors, while kerb weight is approximately 2,095 KG.

Front View

The front features a closed BMW kidney grille with a black mesh pattern and illuminated Iconic Glow surround. Aggressive M Sport bumper elements and large outer air intakes give the electric coupé SUV a more performance-focused appearance.

Rear View

Its sloping roofline flows into a high-gloss black rear spoiler and sculpted M Sport bumper. The short rear deck and prominent wheel arches give the iX2 a wider and more muscular stance than the more conventional BMW iX1.

Headlamps

Adaptive LED headlamps are fitted with vertically arranged daytime-running-light graphics and BMW Selective Beam. The system automatically controls high-beam illumination to improve visibility without unnecessarily dazzling surrounding traffic.

Tail Lamps

Full-LED tail lamps feature angular internal graphics that emphasise the iX2’s broad rear body. Their slim design complements the coupé-style roofline and high-mounted rear spoiler.

Side Mirror

The exterior mirrors are electrically adjustable and power-folding, with integrated turn indicators. M high-gloss Shadowline extended trim adds black mirror caps that complement the grille, badges and window surrounds.

Brakes

M Sport brakes are fitted with dark-blue metallic calipers. The system works with regenerative braking, ABS, electronic brake-force distribution, Brake Assist and Dynamic Stability Control.

Wheels

The Malaysian iX2 rides on 20-inch M V-spoke Style 873 M Bicolour alloy wheels wrapped in 245/40 R20 tyres. A tyre-repair kit is supplied instead of a conventional spare wheel.

Features

Active Safety

Standard active-safety equipment includes ABS, Dynamic Stability Control, traction control, autonomous emergency braking, forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning and tyre-pressure monitoring.

Passive Safety

The iX2 is equipped with front, front-side and front-and-rear curtain airbags. Five three-point seatbelts, reminders for all seating positions and ISOFIX mounting points on the outer rear seats are also provided.

Drive Modes

BMW My Modes includes Personal, Sport and Efficient settings that alter accelerator response, steering, displays and cabin ambience. Sport provides more immediate vehicle responses, while Efficient prioritises reduced energy consumption and additional driving range.

Infotainment

BMW Operating System 9 powers the 10.7-inch touchscreen and uses a QuickSelect interface with configurable widgets. BMW Maps, Intelligent Personal Assistant, ConnectedDrive services, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported.

Driver Assistance

Driving Assistant Plus includes Active Cruise Control with stop-and-go, Steering and Lane Control Assistant, Speed Limit Assist and lane-departure intervention. Active Guard Basis adds front-collision, left-turn and evasion assistance.

Parking Assistant Plus provides automatic parallel and perpendicular parking, front and rear sensors, Reversing Assistant and a 360-degree camera. BMW Drive Recorder, Remote 3D View and anti-theft recording functions are also included.

Sound System

A 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system is fitted as standard, providing improved audio coverage throughout the five-seat cabin.

Performance

Engine

The iX2 uses one electric motor on each axle, producing a combined 230 KW or 313 PS and 494 NM when temporary boost is engaged.

Transmission

Both motors operate through single-speed electric reduction gearing. Power is delivered immediately without the conventional gear changes found in combustion-powered SUVs.

Drivetrain

BMW xDrive electronically manages power between the front and rear motors, giving the iX2 permanent all-wheel-drive capability. The system improves traction during acceleration and distributes power according to road and driving conditions.

Acceleration

The iX2 accelerates from 0 to 100 KM/H in 5.6 seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 180 KM/H.

Fuel Consumption

A 66.5-kWh gross lithium-ion battery provides approximately 64.8 kWh of usable capacity and between 417 and 449 KM of WLTP range. Official combined energy consumption is rated at 16.3 to 17.7 kWh per 100 KM.

Charging supports up to 11 KW AC, requiring approximately six hours and 30 minutes from 0% to 100%. Maximum DC charging is 130 KW, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in around 29 minutes under suitable conditions.

Comfort

Convenience

Convenience equipment includes Comfort Access, push-button operation, a contactless powered tailgate, automatic lights and wipers, wireless smartphone charging and remote functions through the My BMW application.

Rear Air Vents

Dual-zone automatic climate control is fitted with dedicated air vents for rear passengers. Separate USB charging connections are also provided for the second row.

Ride Comfort

Adaptive M Suspension, M Sport steering, upgraded anti-roll hardware and a multi-link rear axle provide strong body control and responsive handling. The 20-inch wheels and sporty suspension tuning can produce a firm ride over sharper road imperfections.

Sound Insulation

Acoustic comfort glazing and the quiet electric drivetrain help reduce wind and powertrain noise. Road noise from the wide 20-inch tyres may remain noticeable on coarse Malaysian highway surfaces.

Wrap Up

Conclusion

The BMW iX2 xDrive30 M Sport combines distinctive coupé-SUV styling with strong dual-motor performance and engaging handling. Its well-equipped cabin, 525-litre boot, comprehensive assistance systems and 449-KM maximum WLTP range make it practical enough for everyday premium-EV use.

However, its RM283,800 price, firm 20-inch-wheel ride and relatively modest 130-KW DC charging rate place it against newer competitors offering longer range or faster charging for less money. Rear headroom is also less generous than in the related iX1. Overall, the iX2 is best suited to buyers who prioritise design, performance and BMW driving character over maximum value or interior space.
