BMW iX3

The 2026 BMW iX3 is the first Neue Klasse production model introduced in Malaysia. BMW Malaysia currently lists the sole iX3 50 xDrive from RM380,000, positioning it beneath the larger BMW iX while introducing the brand’s latest electric architecture, digital interface and design language.

Built in Debrecen, Hungary, the iX3 uses two electric motors producing 345 KW or 469 PS and 645 NM. Its 108.7-kWh battery provides between 678 and 805 KM of WLTP range, while the new 800-volt system supports DC charging at up to 400 KW.

The conventional instrument cluster has been replaced by BMW Panoramic Vision, which projects driving information across a specially coated section at the base of the windscreen. A 17.9-inch Free-Cut central display runs the new BMW Operating System X. 

The minimalist centre console incorporates a compact drive selector, volume controller, vehicle shortcuts, smartphone storage and cup holders. Removing the traditional iDrive rotary controller creates a cleaner and more open cabin layout. 

The iX3 does not use a conventional screen behind the steering wheel. Essential information such as speed, navigation, range and assistance status is displayed through the pillar-to-pillar BMW Panoramic Vision system.

A BMW 3D Head-Up Display is also listed in the official right-hand-drive M Sport specification, adding layered navigation and assistance graphics closer to the driver’s line of sight.

The BMW M interior displayed by BMW Malaysia combines Veganza upholstery with M PerformTex for a sportier cabin treatment. Official regional specification includes electrically adjustable front seats with memory, adjustable backrest width, lumbar support and massage functions. 

The dedicated Neue Klasse electric platform provides a flat rear floor and generous passenger accommodation for five occupants. Rear backrest angle can be adjusted between 23 and 31 degrees, allowing owners to prioritise passenger comfort or luggage capacity. 

The multifunction sports steering wheel uses illuminated Shy Tech controls that only become visible when their functions are available. The touch-sensitive surfaces provide haptic feedback for media, assistance and display controls. 

Storage is provided through the door pockets, glovebox, centre console and areas around the front passenger compartment. A separate 58-litre front storage compartment provides convenient space for charging cables or smaller bags. 

Two cup holders are incorporated into the front centre console. Rear occupants receive additional drink storage through the folding centre armrest and door pockets.

A wireless smartphone charging tray is included in the official regional specification, together with BMW ConnectedDrive smartphone integration. USB-C connections are provided for compatible devices, while the exact Malaysian port arrangement should be confirmed against the final local order sheet. 

The interior combines textile-covered surfaces, Veganza upholstery, configurable ambient lighting and a distinctive illuminated dashboard. BMW states that approximately one-third of the vehicle is produced using secondary raw materials, including material used within the seats, dashboard and centre console.

The rear luggage compartment provides 520 litres, expanding to 1,750 litres when the 40:20:40 rear seatbacks are folded. A further 58 litres is available beneath the bonnet. 

The iX3 measures 4,782 MM long, 1,895 MM wide and 1,635 MM tall, with a 2,897-MM wheelbase. Width increases to 2,093 MM with the mirrors, while the Malaysian-listed technical data gives a kerb weight of approximately 2,360 KG. 

The front introduces BMW’s new Neue Klasse design language, combining vertically oriented kidney grilles with wide horizontal lighting elements. The simpler surfaces and reduced use of decorative trim give the iX3 a cleaner appearance than the combustion-powered X3.

The official right-hand-drive regional M Sport specification includes the BMW Iconic Glow exterior package, M Aerodynamics package and high-gloss Shadowline treatment.

Strongly defined rear shoulders flow into slim LED tail lamps that frame the central BMW badge. A roof spoiler and sculpted lower bumper complete the wide and aerodynamic rear profile.

Adaptive LED headlamps with High-Beam Assistant are specified for the regional iX3 50 xDrive M Sport. The lighting integrates visually with the illuminated kidney grille to create a continuous front graphic at night.

Slim LED tail lamps extend inwards towards the central BMW badge. Their layered graphics and wide placement emphasise the vehicle’s width without requiring a conventional full-width light bar.

The expanded exterior mirror package includes electrical adjustment, folding and automatic anti-dazzle functionality. Flush-fitting door handles extend automatically when the vehicle detects an approaching BMW Digital Key Plus. 

M Sport brakes with dark-blue metallic calipers are specified for the regional 50 xDrive M Sport. The Heart of Joy central control unit coordinates regenerative and friction braking, with BMW stating that recuperation can handle the vast majority of normal everyday deceleration.

The right-hand-drive M Sport specification uses 21-inch M Aerodynamic Style 1051 M Bicolour wheels. BMW also offers 20-, 21- and 22-inch designs internationally, so the fitted wheel may vary according to the final Malaysian order configuration. 

Active-safety equipment includes front-collision warning with brake intervention, Lane Keeping Assistance, crossing-traffic warning, tyre-pressure monitoring and BMW Dynamic Performance Control. Acoustic pedestrian protection is also included. 

The iX3 uses a dedicated EV body structure with integrated battery protection, ISOFIX mounting points and a central airbag designed to reduce contact between the front occupants during a side collision. It achieved the maximum five-star rating under Euro NCAP’s more stringent 2026 assessment protocol.

BMW My Modes adjusts accelerator response, steering, display graphics, ambient lighting and artificial driving sounds. The Heart of Joy computer coordinates the drivetrain, braking, energy recuperation and dynamic-control functions through a single central system.

The 17.9-inch central touchscreen runs BMW Operating System X with navigation, downloadable applications, Intelligent Personal Assistant and over-the-air updates. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported.

Widgets from the central display can be dragged into BMW Panoramic Vision, allowing occupants to customise which information appears across the lower windscreen display. 

Driving Assistant Plus includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Steering and Lane Control Assistant, collision warning and crossing-traffic functions. The system can also adjust speed before bends, junctions and roundabouts when relevant information is available.

Parking Assistant Plus provides automated parking, Reversing Assistant, Active Park Distance Control, Manoeuvre Assistant and a 3D surround-view display. More advanced remote parking functions may depend on the final Malaysian ConnectedDrive package. 

An official regional specification lists a 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. BMW HypersonX also generates selectable driving sounds that respond to accelerator input and the chosen driving setting. 

The iX3 50 xDrive uses one electric motor on each axle, producing a combined 345 KW or 469 PS and 645 NM. The Gen6 electric motors operate through BMW’s new 800-volt electrical system. 

Each motor operates through a single-speed electric reduction transmission. Power is delivered continuously without conventional gear changes. 

BMW xDrive electronically distributes output between the front and rear motors. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive arrangement prioritises rear-wheel propulsion where appropriate while engaging the front motor for additional traction and performance. 

The BMW iX3 50 xDrive accelerates from 0 to 100 KM/H in 4.9 seconds and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 210 KM/H.

The floor-mounted battery provides 108.7 kWh of usable capacity. Depending on wheels and equipment, official WLTP range is rated between 678 and 805 KM, with combined energy consumption of approximately 15.1 to 17.9 kWh per 100 KM.

The 800-volt architecture supports DC charging at up to 400 KW, allowing a 10% to 80% recharge in approximately 21 minutes. Under suitable conditions, ten minutes of charging can add between 309 and 372 KM of WLTP range.

AC charging supports up to 22 KW, with a complete charge taking approximately five hours and 30 minutes. Vehicle-to-Load functionality can supply up to 3.7 KW to compatible external equipment, while broader bidirectional functions are planned subject to market and infrastructure support.

Convenience equipment includes Comfort Access, BMW Digital Key, automatic flush door handles, an electrically operated tailgate, wireless smartphone charging and remote vehicle functions through the My BMW application.

The official regional specification also includes a panoramic glass roof with climate-comfort glazing designed to reduce heat and block ultraviolet radiation. 

Three-zone automatic climate control with dedicated rear air vents is included in BMW’s official regional right-hand-drive specification. Rear passengers can also adjust selected climate and media functions through connected devices. 

The iX3 uses a conventional spring-and-damper suspension combined with BMW Dynamic Performance Control. The Heart of Joy system manages motor torque, braking and body behaviour, while Soft Stop is designed to provide a smoother transition to a complete stop.

Its long wheelbase and comfort-oriented rear seat improve long-distance usability, although the 21-inch M wheels may transmit sharper road imperfections more clearly than the smaller available wheel options.

The electric motors produce minimal mechanical noise during normal driving. Aerodynamic optimisation, a drag coefficient of approximately 0.24 and extensive cabin insulation should provide strong highway refinement, although Malaysian road testing is required to evaluate tyre noise from the large M wheels. 

The 2026 BMW iX3 is more than a direct replacement for the previous model. It introduces BMW’s Neue Klasse platform, Panoramic iDrive, Heart of Joy control architecture, Gen6 battery technology and an 800-volt charging system within a practical five-seat SUV body.

Its combination of 469 PS, up to 805 KM of WLTP range and 400-KW DC charging places it among the most technically advanced premium EVs currently listed in Malaysia. The 520-litre boot, 58-litre front compartment and spacious rear cabin also make it considerably more practical than its performance figures suggest.

The main concerns are its RM380,000 starting price, substantial 2,360-KG kerb weight and dependence on rare ultra-high-output chargers to achieve its fastest charging rate. Some equipment may also vary while BMW Malaysia finalises the local specification. Overall, the iX3 50 xDrive offers a strong balance of range, performance, technology and family usability.
