Reviews

Summary

The BYD Atto 2 is a compact fully electric SUV positioned between the Dolphin and Atto 3 in BYD Malaysia’s line-up. The Malaysian model continues into 2026 in a single Premium variant priced at RM100,000.

Power comes from a front-mounted electric motor producing 130 KW (174 HP) and 290 NM, paired with a 51.13 KWH BYD Blade Battery. It offers up to 410 KM NEDC or approximately 350 KM WLTP range and accelerates from 0-100 KM/H in 7.9 seconds.

Interior

Dashboard

The dashboard adopts a cleaner and more conventional design than the distinctive gym-inspired cabin of the larger Atto 3.

A floating 12.8-INCH electrically rotating touchscreen occupies the centre of the dashboard, while an 8.8-INCH digital instrument display sits directly ahead of the driver.

Centre Console

The right-hand-drive Malaysian Atto 2 uses a column-mounted drive selector, freeing up additional space around the centre console.

A row of physical controls provides quick access to drive functions, hazard lights, Auto Hold, wireless charging, front demisting and audio volume, while a 50 W wireless charging pad sits beneath the touchscreen.

Instrument Cluster

An 8.8-INCH LCD digital instrument panel displays essential information including speed, remaining range, battery status and driver-assistance functions.

Its raised positioning keeps key information within the driver’s natural line of sight.

Seats

Synthetic leather upholstery is standard across the cabin.

The driver receives six-way electric adjustment, while the front passenger seat is electrically adjustable in four directions. Both front seats additionally feature ventilation, an uncommon feature at this price point.

Space

Despite its compact 4.31 M exterior length, the Atto 2 accommodates five occupants and offers a relatively spacious passenger compartment for its segment.

Its EV architecture and flat cabin packaging help maximise usable interior space, while the rear seats fold in a 60:40 split for additional cargo flexibility.

Steering Functions

A multifunction steering wheel integrates controls for audio, phone functions, cruise control and the multi-function driver display.

Electric Power Assisted Steering is standard.

Storage Space

Storage provisions include a dedicated centre-console compartment, door pockets and smaller storage areas throughout the passenger compartment.

The 60:40 split-folding rear seats further increase carrying flexibility when larger items need to be transported.

Cup Holders

Two front cup holders are incorporated into the centre-console area.

The Malaysian Atto 2 does not provide dedicated rear cup holders, keeping the rear cabin arrangement relatively simple.

Charging Ports

The Atto 2 provides two USB ports in the front centre console and another two for rear occupants, comprising Type-A and Type-C connections.

A 50 W wireless smartphone charger and 12 V accessory socket are also provided.

Build Quality

The cabin combines synthetic leather upholstery with soft-touch and textured trim surfaces, giving the Atto 2 a more premium presentation than its entry-level positioning might suggest.

Sub-instrument-panel illumination and LED front and rear reading lamps further improve the cabin ambience.

Boot Space

The Atto 2 provides approximately 380 L of luggage capacity with the rear seats upright.

Folding the 60:40 split rear seats expands maximum carrying capacity to 1,320 L, making the compact SUV reasonably practical for larger loads.

Exterior

Body Dimensions

The Atto 2 measures 4,310 MM long, 1,830 MM wide and 1,675 MM tall, with a wheelbase spanning 2,620 MM.

Front and rear tracks both measure 1,570 MM, while laden ground clearance stands at 150 MM. Its relatively compact dimensions make it particularly suited to urban driving and parking.

Front View

Up front, the Atto 2 adopts BYD’s latest Dragon Face design language, featuring a clean closed-off EV fascia, short bonnet and sculpted bumper surfaces.

A metallic trim element links the lighting units visually, while the upright SUV proportions and pronounced lower bumper give the Atto 2 a more robust appearance than the Dolphin hatchback positioned beneath it.

Rear View

The rear adopts a relatively upright tailgate design complemented by a roof-mounted spoiler and a full-width lighting element.

Its tail-light graphic incorporates a Möbius ring-inspired design, giving the compact SUV a distinctive appearance at night.

Headlamps

The Atto 2 is equipped with LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights.

A Follow Me Home function is also standard, allowing the exterior lights to remain illuminated temporarily after the vehicle is locked.

Tail Lamps

A full-width LED tail-light bar spans the rear of the Atto 2.

Its Möbius-inspired internal lighting graphic is complemented by an LED high-mounted brake lamp positioned above the rear windscreen.

Side Mirror

The exterior mirrors are electrically adjustable, electrically retractable and heated.

Their heating function is particularly useful in wet or humid conditions by helping clear moisture from the mirror surface.

Brakes

Braking hardware consists of ventilated disc brakes at the front and solid disc brakes at the rear.

The system is supported by ABS, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Electronic Stability Control and regenerative braking through the electric drivetrain.

Wheels

The Atto 2 rides on 17-INCH alloy wheels.

These are wrapped in 215/60 R17 tyres, providing a relatively generous tyre sidewall that suits the vehicle’s comfort-oriented urban SUV positioning.

Features

Active Safety

Active safety equipment includes Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control System, Hill Descent Control and Brake Override System.

Also standard are an Electronic Parking Brake, Auto Hold, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and a 360-degree View Monitor.

Passive Safety

The Atto 2 is equipped with six airbags, comprising dual front airbags, front side airbags and side curtain airbags covering the front and rear passenger areas.

Front and rear seat-belt reminders and ISOFIX child-seat anchorage points on the outer rear seats are also standard.

Drive Modes

Selectable drive settings can be accessed through dedicated physical controls on the centre console area.

Regenerative braking is also integrated into the electric drivetrain, allowing energy to be recovered during deceleration.

Infotainment

A 12.8-INCH Intelligent Rotating Touch Screen serves as the main infotainment interface.

It supports FM radio, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, wireless and wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus an English-language voice assistant.

Driver Assistance

Its driver-assistance suite includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Intelligent Cruise Control, Front Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking.

Also included are Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Intelligent Speed Limit Information and Intelligent Speed Limit Control.

Sound System

The Atto 2 comes equipped with an eight-speaker audio system.

Music can be played through Bluetooth, smartphone integration or other supported media sources controlled through the central touchscreen.

Performance

Engine

As a fully electric vehicle, the Atto 2 uses a permanent magnet synchronous motor instead of a combustion engine.

Mounted at the front, it produces 130 KW (174 HP) and 290 NM.

Transmission

Power is delivered through a single-ratio automatic electric transmission.

Unlike a combustion vehicle, the electric motor provides immediate torque without requiring conventional multi-speed gear changes.

Drivetrain

The Malaysian Atto 2 uses a front-wheel-drive configuration.

Its single electric motor drives the front axle exclusively, prioritising packaging efficiency and predictable everyday handling.

Acceleration

The Atto 2 accelerates from 0-100 KM/H in 7.9 seconds.

Maximum speed is approximately 160 KM/H, providing more than sufficient performance for daily city and highway use.

Fuel Consumption

As a battery-electric vehicle, the Atto 2 consumes no petrol or diesel.

Its 51.13 KWH BYD Blade Battery provides up to 410 KM NEDC, while the Malaysian launch specification quotes approximately 350 KM WLTP.

Charging is supported at 7 KW AC through Type 2 and up to 82 KW DC through CCS2. Vehicle-to-Load functionality is also standard, with external power output of up to approximately 3.3 KW.

Comfort

Convenience

Convenience equipment includes keyless entry and start, a portable NFC card key, BYD Digital Key and Bluetooth Key functionality.

Also standard are rain-sensing wipers, an auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror, four-door one-touch windows with anti-pinch protection, 50 W wireless charging and automatic air-conditioning with a PM2.5 high-efficiency filter.

Rear Air Vents

The Malaysian Atto 2 does not feature dedicated rear air-conditioning vents.

Rear occupants therefore rely on airflow from the front-mounted automatic climate-control system.

Ride Comfort

The Atto 2 uses MacPherson strut front suspension and a torsion-beam rear setup.

Combined with its relatively tall 215/60 R17 tyres and urban-focused chassis tuning, the suspension prioritises ease of use and everyday ride comfort rather than outright sporting performance.

Sound Insulation

The absence of a combustion engine keeps low-speed drivetrain noise and vibration to a minimum.

No dedicated acoustic glazing or active noise-cancellation technology is listed in the Malaysian specification, although the inherently quiet EV powertrain contributes to a calm cabin during urban driving.

Wrap Up

Conclusion

The BYD Atto 2 provides a well-rounded entry point into compact electric SUV ownership, combining useful urban dimensions with 174 HP, 290 NM and around 350 KM WLTP range.

Its biggest strengths are equipment: ventilated powered front seats, a 12.8-INCH rotating touchscreen, eight-speaker audio, 50 W wireless charging, 360-degree cameras and a comprehensive ADAS package are all standard at RM100,000.

The relatively modest 82 KW DC charging speed and absence of rear air vents are noticeable compromises, but for primarily urban use the Atto 2 remains one of BYD Malaysia’s most accessible and comprehensively equipped electric SUVs.
