BYD Seal

Highly sought-after, BYD’s latest offering, the new BYD Seal, upgraded for the year 2025 and launched in Malaysia.

A D-segment (large-size four-door coupe) Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), it underpins BYD’s Intelligent e-Platform 3.0 architecture and Blade Battery Technology.

Fully imported (CBU – China), available via Sime Motors (BYD Cars Malaysia) are two variants (Premium – MYR 172,500, Performance – MYR 192,500).

Prices (OTR, w/o insurance) cover vehicle (six years/150,000 KM), EV battery (eight years/160,000 KM) and drive unit (eight years/150,000 KM) warranties.

Exterior colours (single-tone – Shark Grey, Cosmos Black, Aurora White, Atlantis Grey). Interior colour (single-tone – Thaumas Black).

The new Seal has a tiered dashboard (buttonless), linked to a high-rising-floating (armrest, storage, dual wireless charger, interior control buttons) centre console.

Soft-/hard-touched (dash, steering wheel, centre console, doors), it sees leatherette upholstery (Thaumas Black) with contrast trims (Metal, Gloss Black) and stitching (Blue).

Equipped are central/driver displays (floating: infotainment, instrument cluster), air-conditioning vents (full width) and ambient lights (multi-colour, rhythmic).

Inclusively, the layout is ergonomic (functional), with accessibilities purposefully arranged (driver-oriented, user-friendly).

Installed is a 10.25-Inch HD TFT LCD fully digital driver display (instrument cluster), incorporating a Head-Up Display (HUD).

Features are vehicle telematics, Bluetooth, navigation, voice recognition and customisable interface (drive mode dependent).

Comfortable, the interior sees leather (eco-friendly: vegan leather) upholstery (Thaumas Black) with contrast piping (White), stitching (Blue) and quilting (Diamond).

The front gets electric-powered (driver-passenger-multi-way-adjust, driver-lumbar, driver-memory, courtesy seating, driver-passenger-ventilation-heating) Sports Seats. The rear gets a manual-operated (60:40 split-fold) bolstered bench.

A five-seater (large-size four-door coupe), the cabin offers generous space with comfortable seatings, providing ample interior mobility for the occupants (front, rear).

Mounted is a three-spoke-flat-top-bottom steering wheel. Leather (Thaumas Black) with contrast trims (Metal, Gloss Black) and stitching (Blue).

Weighing in at 2,055 KG (Premium) and 2,185 KG (Performance), the new Seal measures at 4,800 MM in length, 1,875 MM in width, 1,460 MM in height and with a wheelbase spanning 2,920 MM.

Dynamically sporty, it parades the brand’s ‘Marine Aesthetics’ design concept, emphasised by cleanly sharp and flowing contours.

The long-overhang front-end sees a formed bonnet (side raised), rounded quarter panels (flared fenders) and an X-shaped bumper (grille-omitted, full width-lower vented, corner cutouts, BYD script).

Accentuations, body clad (Black: bumper lip, side sills) and body trims (Black: vent, corner bumper surrounds, side mirror arms, B-pillars, window surrounds – Chrome: BYD script) and flush door handles (body-colour: electric).

Dynamically sporty, it continues the brand’s ‘Marine Aesthetics’ design concept, emphasised by seamlessly jointless and clean surfaces.

The short-overhang rear-end sees a coupe roofline (tailgate sloping), rounded quarter panels (flared fenders), a tapered tailgate (BYD/Seal scripts) and a covered bumper (corner cutouts, diffuser: exhaust-omitted).

Accentuations, body clad (Black: side sills) and body trims (Black: diffuser, corner bumper insert, window surrounds – Chrome: BYD/Seal scripts) and flush door handles (body-colour: electric).

Sleek, the headlamps are framed roundly sharp with U-shaped light fitments (light ‘Ripple’ effect – bumper corners). Installed are full LED units.

Features are L-shaped Daytime Running Lights (DRL – LED), automatic On/Off/high-/low-beam/cornering, High Beam Assist (HBA), welcome/leaving lights and sequential turn signals (LED).

Seamless, the tail lamps are framed full-width (lightbar) and slim with roundly pointed wraparound edges. Installed are full LED units.

Features are automatic On/Off, welcome/leaving lights and sequential turn signals (LED). Included is a high-mounted stop light (LED: windscreen integrated).

The side mirrors (dual-tone – Black-body-colour) are electric-powered (auto-fold, adjust) with sequential turn signals, blind-spot indicators (Blind Spot Detection – BSD), reverse-dipping, heating and memory.

Installed is a set of ventilated-cross-drilled (front) and ventilated (rear) disc brakes with coloured (Red) callipers (front – Performance).

Drive is aided by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with Auto Brake Hold system. 

Included is a regenerative braking (two levels: Standard, High) system and an Intelligent Power Brake (IPB) system.

Mounted is a set of 19-Inch (Premium, Performance) five-twin-spoke (dual-tone – Black-Silver, Diamond-cut) alloy rims, rubbered up in 235/45 R19 (front, rear) Continental EcoContact 6 Q tyres.

The new Seal gets the following suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Installed is a floating-rotating 15.6-Inch HD touchscreen central display (infotainment, control unit).

Features are Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (wireless), AM/FM radio, USB, Bluetooth, 5G/WiFi/WiFi hotspot, media, live navigation, voice assistant, mobile app remote control (BYD App), app store, vehicle telematics and Over-The-Air (OTA) updates.

Entertainment is channelled via a HIFI DYNAUDIO premium sound system (12 speakers).

The new Seal (Premium, Performance) underpins variant-specific e-powertrains (BEV).

Nestled (rear-mounted: Premium) is a single-electric motor (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor – PMSM) setup (230 KW/308 HP, 360 NM).

Fused (front-rear-mounted: Performance) is a dual-electric motor (front: Asynchronous Magnet Synchronous Motor – AMSM, rear: Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor – PMSM) setup (front: 160 KW/215 HP, 310 NM – rear: 230 KW/308 HP, 360 NM).

Total system output (front-rear: 390 KW/523 HP, 670 NM).

Merged to the setup is a single-speed automatic transmission.

Power is transmitted to the rear wheels (Premium) and all four wheels (Performance), via a Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and an All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system.

Incorporated is an Intelligence Torque Adaption Control (ITAC) system (Performance).

0 to 100 KM/H acceleration is done in 5.9 seconds (Premium) and 3.8 seconds (Performance). Top speed is electronically capped at 180 KM/H (Premium, Performance).

Powering the e-motor is BYD’s Blade Battery Technology (Intelligent e-Platform 3.0 architecture), featuring a Blade Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery (400 V, 82.56 KWH), enabling a total driving range (NEDC/WLTP) of 650 KM/570 KM (Premium) and 580 KM/520 KM (Performance).

AC charging (Type 2 – 7 KW) takes 15.2 hours for a 0% to 100% State of Charge (SoC). DC charging (CCS2 – 150 KW) takes 32 minutes for a 30% to 80% SoC.

Included is a regenerative braking system and a Vehicle-To-Load (V2L – 3.3 KW) function for powering of external appliances.

Propping-up the e-chassis is a suspension setup of double wishbone (front) and multi-link (rear), incorporating Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) shock absorbers (Premium) and DiSus-C Intelligent Damping adaptive suspension system (Performance).

Included, Intelligence Torque Adaption Control (ITAC – Performance) system (drive torque allocation: minimise skidding, enhance safety).

Ride comfortability feels flexible and firm at the same time. The e-coupe delivers a connected steering feel, with linear and balanced weighing at all speeds. 

Overall, it is spacious and comfortable, and the ride quality is satisfactory. Safe and suitable as a daily driver.

Good sound insulation, covering all the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) aspects. The cabin is serene, with the tyre, road and wind noises mostly hindered. 

Included, acoustic glass (front: windscreen, doors – double glazed, soundproof).

The new BYD Seal exudes an electrifyingly sleek and modern outlook with its sharply flowing and symmetrically seamless body contours.

Interior wise, its shell envelopes a tech savvy cockpit, featuring advanced connectivity, safety systems and creature comfort features.
