BYD Sealion 7

The 2026 BYD SEALION 7 is a five-seat electric coupe SUV offered in Malaysia in three variants: Dynamic RWD at RM163,800, Premium RWD at RM188,800 and Performance AWD at RM203,800, before registration, road tax and insurance. The new Dynamic lowers the model’s entry price, while the Premium and Performance receive larger batteries, an 800-volt electrical system and substantially faster charging.

The Dynamic uses a 71.8-kWh Blade Battery, while the Premium and Performance receive a larger 91.39-kWh unit. Warranty coverage includes six years or 150,000 KM for the vehicle and eight years or 160,000 KM for both the high-voltage battery and electric drive unit. 

The dashboard combines a 10.25-inch digital instrument display with a 15.6-inch electrically rotating central touchscreen. An illuminated passenger-side panel, four-spoke steering wheel and flowing dashboard lines continue the vehicle’s ocean-inspired interior theme. 

The floating centre console houses the drive selector, physical shortcut controls, cup holders and a 50-W wireless smartphone charger. Additional storage is provided beneath the raised console for smaller personal items. 

The 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster displays speed, battery status, remaining range, navigation and driver-assistance information. Premium and Performance variants also receive a 50-inch augmented-reality head-up display, which is omitted from the Dynamic.

The Dynamic receives faux-leather upholstery, while the Premium and Performance feature genuine leather. All variants provide powered, heated and ventilated front seats, with the higher variants adding four-way driver lumbar adjustment and a powered leg rest. 

The long 2,930-MM wheelbase provides generous legroom for five occupants, while the flat rear floor improves comfort for the centre passenger. The coupe-style roofline creates a sportier appearance without greatly reducing general rear-seat usability.

The leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel provides controls for media, calls, driver assistance and the digital displays. Steering-column reach and height adjustments allow the driver to find a suitable seating position.

Storage areas include large door pockets, a glovebox, compartments within and beneath the centre console and front seatback pockets. A 58-litre front boot provides additional space for charging cables or smaller luggage. 

Two adjustable cup holders are positioned within the front centre console. Rear passengers receive additional cup holders within the folding centre armrest.

The cabin provides four USB connections, comprising one USB-A and one USB-C port for each seating row. A 50-W wireless smartphone charger is fitted at the front, while a Vehicle-to-Load adapter is supplied for powering compatible external equipment. 

The cabin combines soft-touch surfaces, detailed stitching and metallic trim with an all-black interior colour scheme. The Dynamic remains well presented with synthetic upholstery, although the genuine leather and Dynaudio system give the higher variants a more premium atmosphere. 

The Dynamic provides 500 litres of rear luggage capacity, expanding to 1,769 litres with the rear seats folded. Premium and Performance variants offer 520 litres, increasing to 1,789 litres when the second row is lowered. All variants also include the 58-litre front boot. 

All three variants measure 4,830 MM long, 1,925 MM wide and 1,620 MM tall, supported by a 2,930-MM wheelbase. Kerb weight ranges from 2,160 KG for the Dynamic to 2,295 KG for the Premium and 2,435 KG for the Performance.

The front uses BYD’s Ocean X styling, combining a low bonnet, slim lighting elements and sculpted bumper sections that form a prominent X-shaped appearance. Its largely enclosed fascia provides a clean EV-specific design while retaining a sporty road presence.

The sloping roofline flows into a roof spoiler and wide powered tailgate. A full-width lighting arrangement and sculpted lower bumper emphasise the SEALION 7’s broad stance, while the Premium and Performance add hands-free kick activation for the tailgate. 

LED headlamps are fitted with automatic operation, daytime-running lights and High Beam Assist. Their slim design follows the Ocean X front profile and gives the vehicle a distinctive appearance at night. 

The Dynamic Water Drop LED tail lamps combine a continuous horizontal light strip with individual droplet-shaped elements. This creates a recognisable lighting signature while visually widening the rear body.

The exterior mirrors are electrically adjustable, heated and power-folding. Automatic reverse tilting and blind-spot warning indicators further improve visibility during parking and lane changes.

The Dynamic receives ventilated disc brakes at both ends with floating front calipers. The Premium and Performance upgrade to cross-drilled ventilated front discs with fixed calipers, while retaining ventilated rear discs.

Dynamic and Premium variants ride on 19-inch alloy wheels with staggered 235/50 R19 front and 255/45 R19 rear tyres. The Performance receives larger 20-inch wheels with 245/45 R20 tyres and red brake calipers. 

Standard active-safety equipment includes ABS, electronic brake-force distribution, Brake Assist, traction control, electronic stability control, hill-start assistance, tyre-pressure monitoring and an electronic parking brake with Auto Hold.

Nine airbags are fitted across the range, including front, front-side, rear-side, curtain and far-side driver airbags. ISOFIX child-seat mounting points and seatbelt reminders are also provided. 

Selectable Eco, Normal, Sport and Snow modes adjust accelerator response and power delivery. The AWD Performance additionally uses Intelligent Torque Adaption Control to manage traction and power distribution between the axles. 

The 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, navigation, voice commands and over-the-air software updates. The display can be switched between portrait and landscape orientations.

The driver-assistance package includes adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-departure warning and prevention, lane-keeping assistance, front and rear cross-traffic alert, rear cross-traffic braking, blind-spot detection and High Beam Assist.

A 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors and Door Open Warning further assist with low-speed manoeuvring and urban driving.

The Dynamic receives a ten-speaker BYD premium audio system. Premium and Performance variants upgrade to a 12-speaker Dynaudio sound system, providing a more immersive listening experience.

The Dynamic uses a single rear motor producing 170 KW or 231 PS and 380 NM. The Premium increases rear-motor output to 230 KW or 313 PS, while retaining the same 380-NM torque figure.

The Performance adds a 160-KW front motor to the Premium’s rear motor, producing a combined 390 KW or 530 PS and 690 NM. 

Each motor operates through a single-speed electric reduction drive. Power delivery is immediate, without the conventional gear changes found in combustion-powered SUVs.

The Dynamic and Premium use rear-wheel drive, providing balanced handling and a conventional performance-oriented layout. The Performance uses dual-motor all-wheel drive for stronger acceleration and improved traction.

The Dynamic accelerates from 0 to 100 KM/H in 7.3 seconds, while the Premium completes the sprint in 6.9 seconds. The Performance is considerably quicker, reaching 100 KM/H in 4.5 seconds.

The Dynamic’s 71.8-kWh Blade Battery provides up to 520 KM of NEDC range, or approximately 440 KM under WLTP testing. It supports 7-KW AC and 110-KW DC charging.

Premium and Performance variants use a 91.39-kWh Blade Battery and 800-volt electrical architecture. The Premium delivers up to 650 KM NEDC, approximately 553 KM WLTP, while the Performance offers 600 KM NEDC or 502 KM WLTP. Both support 11-KW AC and 230-KW DC charging, with a 10% to 80% charge requiring approximately 24 minutes under suitable conditions.

Convenience equipment includes keyless entry and start, NFC access, rain-sensing wipers, a panoramic glass roof, powered tailgate, automatic climate control and wireless smartphone charging. Premium and Performance variants add hands-free tailgate activation. 

Dual-zone automatic climate control is fitted with dedicated rear air vents. A PM2.5 filtration system and negative-ion air purifier help maintain cabin air quality.

Double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear arrangement are standard across the range. The setup provides good body control for the heavy electric SUV, while the 19-inch-equipped Dynamic and Premium should offer a slightly more compliant ride than the 20-inch Performance. 

Double-glazed glass is used for the windscreen and front doors to reduce wind and traffic noise. Combined with the quiet electric drivetrain and extensive cabin insulation, the SEALION 7 provides a refined environment during normal driving.

The 2026 BYD SEALION 7 is a meaningful update despite retaining the familiar exterior design. The new Dynamic provides a more accessible RM163,800 entry point, while the Premium and Performance benefit from a much larger battery, longer range and faster 230-KW charging.

The Dynamic offers the strongest value but receives slower charging, less power and no head-up display or Dynaudio audio system. The Premium provides the best balance of range, comfort and equipment, while the Performance is aimed at drivers who prioritise AWD traction and 4.5-second acceleration. Its large dimensions and substantial kerb weight remain drawbacks, but the updated range is now considerably more competitive against other electric SUVs in Malaysia.
