Maserati GranCabrio Folgore

The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore is a four-seat fully electric luxury convertible and the open-top counterpart to the GranTurismo Folgore. It combines three electric motors, all-wheel drive and an 800-volt electrical architecture with a fabric soft top that can be opened in 14 seconds and closed in 16 seconds while travelling at speeds of up to 50 KM/H.

Its powertrain produces 560 KW or 761 PS, rising to 610 KW or approximately 830 PS in MaxBoost, together with 1,350 NM. The 92.5-kWh battery provides around 419 to 449 KM of WLTP range depending on configuration, while 270-KW DC charging enables a 20% to 80% recharge in around 18 minutes.

The driver-focused dashboard combines a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch central infotainment touchscreen and separate 8.8-inch Comfort Display for climate and secondary controls. Folgore-specific materials and copper-coloured detailing distinguish the electric model.

The centre console flows into the lower 8.8-inch touchscreen and provides storage, cup holders and selected vehicle controls. Transmission selection is handled electronically, allowing the cabin to retain a clean and contemporary grand-tourer design.

A configurable 12.2-inch full-digital instrument cluster displays speed, range, power usage, navigation and performance information. A head-up display is available depending on specification, reducing the need for the driver to look away from the road.

The four individual seats feature premium upholstery with extensive customisation available through Maserati Fuoriserie. Folgore cabins can also use ECONYL regenerated nylon, reflecting the electric model's sustainability-focused material treatment.

An integrated Neck Warmer provides three heating levels for the driver and front passenger, extending the usability of the convertible roof during cooler weather.

Unlike many high-performance convertibles, the GranCabrio Folgore is designed as a genuine four-seat grand tourer. The 2,929-MM wheelbase provides usable rear accommodation, although access and legroom remain less generous than in a four-door luxury car. Maserati specifically promotes the vehicle as allowing the open-top experience to be shared with three passengers.

The multifunction steering wheel provides access to media, vehicle information and driver-assistance controls. Dedicated controls also allow the driver to switch between the GranCabrio's performance modes without navigating deeply through the infotainment system.

Cabin storage is understandably limited by the two-door grand-tourer layout and convertible roof mechanism. Door compartments, centre-console storage and smaller cabin trays are provided for everyday items, while the rear seats can also carry smaller bags when not occupied.

Cup holders are integrated into the front centre-console area. Additional small-item storage is available around the console, although the GranCabrio prioritises its low seating position and interior design over extensive utility storage.

USB connectivity and wireless smartphone functions accompany the infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, while exact USB-port specification can vary according to market equipment.

The cabin combines traditional Italian craftsmanship with modern sustainable materials. Leather, carbon fibre and ECONYL can be combined with intricate stitching and Folgore-specific copper detailing, while Maserati's Fuoriserie programme enables extensive customisation.

The Folgore's battery and convertible roof mechanism reduce luggage capacity to 151 litres with the roof raised and approximately 114 litres with the roof stowed. This is substantially less than a conventional grand tourer and is one of the GranCabrio Folgore's most significant practicality compromises.

The GranCabrio Folgore measures 4,966 MM long, 1,957 MM wide without mirrors and 1,365 MM tall, supported by a 2,929-MM wheelbase. Width with the mirrors is approximately 2,113 MM, while kerb weight stands at 2,340 KG.

The GranCabrio retains Maserati's long-bonnet grand-tourer proportions but receives Folgore-specific EV detailing. The prominent Trident grille remains, complemented by vertical full-LED headlamps, illuminated side vents and copper-coloured Folgore badging.

A short rear deck and broad rear haunches give the convertible a muscular stance even with the roof lowered. Full-LED tail lamps combine elements of Maserati's traditional boomerang design with a more modern harpoon-shaped lighting signature.

Slim full-LED headlamps are vertically positioned within the front wings, following the design introduced by the MC20. Their compact shape helps maintain the GranCabrio's low bonnet and wide front proportions.

Full-LED rear lamps feature distinctive three-dimensional graphics inspired by previous Maserati models. Their horizontal placement emphasises the car's width and complements the sculpted rear deck.

Aerodynamically shaped exterior mirrors incorporate electrical adjustment and folding depending on specification. The convertible also features frameless side windows and gloss-black window surrounds, helping retain a clean profile with either the roof raised or lowered.

Large ventilated disc brakes work together with regenerative braking and Maserati's electronic stability systems. The Folgore is distinguished by anodised black brake calipers, while the low battery position and electronic torque management help maintain stability during heavy braking.

The GranCabrio Folgore uses a staggered arrangement with 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the rear. Standard tyre sizes are 265/35 ZR20 up front and 295/30 ZR21 at the rear.

Active-safety equipment available for the GranCabrio includes autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, Maserati Stability Programme, ABS, tyre-pressure monitoring and electronic parking brake. Rear Active Braking can also intervene when an obstacle is detected while reversing.

The occupant-protection system incorporates dual-stage front airbags, side airbags and head-protection airbags together with ISOFIX mounting points and seatbelt pretensioners. The high-voltage battery is mounted low within the vehicle structure to help protect it during an impact while also lowering the centre of gravity.

The 2026 GranCabrio Folgore provides Max Range, GT, Sport and Corsa modes. Max Range prioritises efficiency, GT balances everyday comfort and performance, while Sport and Corsa progressively sharpen throttle response, suspension and torque-vectoring behaviour.

Corsa additionally provides performance-oriented functions including Launch Control and MaxBoost, allowing the full powertrain potential to be accessed under suitable conditions.

The 12.3-inch Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) touchscreen uses an Android Automotive-based platform and supports voice commands, navigation and smartphone integration. The system can calculate the predicted battery state of charge at the destination and recommend charging stops along the route.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, while a separate 8.8-inch Comfort Display handles functions such as climate control.

Maserati offers Level 2 driver assistance including Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Lane Keeping Assist, which can work together through Highway Assist to control speed, following distance and lane positioning. Surround View Camera technology is also available for improved visibility during manoeuvring.

Exact assistance equipment should be checked against the Malaysian order specification, as Maserati packages selected ADAS functions differently between markets.

Audio is supplied by Italian specialist Sonus faber. A premium system is available, while the optional High Premium configuration uses 16 speakers positioned specifically for the GranCabrio cabin.

The Folgore also generates its own artificial exterior and interior sound signature, developed by Maserati engineers to give the electric powertrain a distinctive character rather than attempting to imitate a conventional combustion engine.

Three permanent-magnet electric motors are fitted, comprising one motor at the front and two independently controlled motors at the rear. Each motor is capable of up to 300 KW individually, although total vehicle output is electronically limited.

Normal maximum system output is 560 KW or 761 PS, while MaxBoost raises available output to 610 KW or approximately 830 PS. Peak torque is rated at 1,350 NM.

Each electric motor operates through a single-speed reduction gear. There is no conventional multi-speed transmission, allowing the motors to provide immediate torque across a wide operating range.

The GranCabrio Folgore uses Q4 all-wheel drive, with one motor powering the front axle and two separate motors driving the rear wheels. Independent rear motors allow active torque vectoring to distribute power precisely between the left and right wheels.

The GranCabrio Folgore accelerates from 0 to 100 KM/H in 2.8 seconds and from 0 to 200 KM/H in approximately 9.1 seconds. Maximum speed is 290 KM/H, making it one of the world's fastest series-production electric convertibles.

A 92.5-kWh gross lithium-ion battery is positioned in a T-shaped configuration through the centre tunnel and behind the occupants, rather than using a conventional flat skateboard layout. This allows Maserati to retain the GranTurismo platform's low seating position.

Usable battery capacity is approximately 83 kWh, while WLTP range is rated at roughly 419 to 449 KM, depending on specification. Official combined electricity consumption is approximately 22.3 to 23.7 kWh/100 KM.

The 800-volt architecture supports up to 270-KW DC fast charging, enabling a 20% to 80% recharge in approximately 18 minutes. AC charging supports up to 22 KW, with Maserati quoting roughly 100 KM of WLTP range added in one hour under suitable conditions.

The electrically operated fabric roof is one of the GranCabrio's defining features. It can be lowered in 14 seconds and raised in 16 seconds, including while travelling at speeds of up to 50 KM/H. Five roof colours have also been offered internationally.

A three-level Neck Warmer and available Wind Stop help reduce the compromises of open-top motoring, particularly during cooler or faster journeys.

Maserati's published GranCabrio material does not specifically list dedicated rear centre-console air vents. Climate management is primarily focused around the front cabin, with the Neck Warmer and convertible-specific airflow management playing a larger role in open-top comfort.

Adaptive air suspension with Skyhook electronic damping is standard equipment for the Folgore. The system continuously varies damping according to road conditions and selected driving mode, allowing the car to switch between long-distance grand-touring comfort and much firmer body control in Sport or Corsa.

The battery's low placement and staggered tyre setup also help the heavy 2,340-KG convertible maintain a low centre of gravity and balanced handling behaviour.

With the fabric roof raised, significant acoustic engineering helps isolate wind and road noise during longer journeys. When lowered, the wind-management system is designed to reduce cabin turbulence, while the artificial Folgore sound provides additional feedback from the otherwise quiet electric drivetrain.

The Maserati GranCabrio Folgore occupies an exceptionally small niche: a genuinely four-seat electric convertible capable of supercar-level acceleration. Its 830-PS MaxBoost output, three-motor torque-vectoring system, adaptive air suspension and 290-KM/H top speed ensure it remains a serious performance car rather than simply an electric luxury cruiser.

It also retains much of the emotional appeal of a traditional Maserati through its low-slung Italian styling, open-top layout and highly customisable cabin. The 800-volt architecture and 270-KW charging system are strong, although its roughly 419 to 449-KM WLTP range is less impressive beside newer long-range EVs.

Its largest compromises are the RM1.05 million Malaysian price, very small 151-litre boot and 2,340-KG kerb weight. Nevertheless, buyers are unlikely to choose the GranCabrio Folgore primarily for practicality or value. As an electric open-top grand tourer combining four seats with immense performance, it remains an unusually distinctive proposition.
