Reviews

Summary

The Maserati GranTurismo Folgore is a four-seat fully electric luxury grand tourer and the first production EV in Maserati's history. It officially arrived in Malaysia in June 2025 at a launch price of RM998,800, while Maserati Malaysia's current configurator now lists the 2025 model from RM1,038,800.

Its Formula E-derived powertrain uses three electric motors and all-wheel drive, producing 560 KW or 761 PS and 1,350 NM, with up to 610 KW available through MaxBoost. A 92.5-kWh battery provides approximately 450 KM of driving range, while its 800-volt electrical architecture supports 270-KW DC charging.

Interior

Dashboard

The cabin combines a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch central infotainment touchscreen and separate 8.8-inch Comfort Display. Together with the digital clock and available head-up display, the GranTurismo provides more than 33 inches of digital display area.

Centre Console

The centre console has no conventional mechanical gear lever, creating a cleaner layout with storage and cup holders positioned beneath the lower touchscreen. Transmission functions are controlled electronically.

The 8.8-inch lower display handles functions including climate and selected comfort settings, reducing the number of physical controls around the console.

Instrument Cluster

The 12.2-inch configurable TFT digital instrument display offers four selectable layouts and can present speed, range, energy consumption, navigation and performance information.

An optional head-up display projects selected information closer to the driver's line of sight.

Seats

The cabin can be specified with premium leather or Folgore-specific ECONYL regenerated nylon, produced partly from recycled fishing nets and other recovered nylon materials. The material is also used across areas including the pillars and headliner.

Powered front seats with memory and heating are offered, with equipment varying according to the final Malaysian configuration.

Space

The GranTurismo Folgore is a genuine 2+2 four-seater, rather than a strict two-seat sports car. Its 2,929-MM wheelbase provides useful rear accommodation, although access and legroom remain tighter than in a four-door luxury car.

Steering Functions

The multifunction steering wheel incorporates controls for media, driver assistance and drive-mode selection. Aluminium paddles allow the driver to alter regenerative-braking behaviour rather than changing conventional gears.

The steering column is electrically adjustable on the documented Folgore specification.

Storage Space

Storage includes the glovebox, door compartments, centre-console areas and small-item storage around the front occupants. Its low sports-car architecture prioritises passenger packaging and driving position over extensive interior storage.

Cup Holders

Two cup holders are integrated into the front centre console, while additional drink storage is available around the rear seating area. Carz's GranTurismo database lists four cup holders in total.

Charging Ports

Wireless smartphone charging is available together with USB and 12-volt charging connections. The GranTurismo provides multiple device-charging outlets around its centre-console area.

Build Quality

Natural leather, open-pore wood, Alcantara, carbon fibre and ECONYL are available throughout the cabin. Maserati combines these materials with metallic switchgear, detailed stitching and configurable ambient lighting to create a distinctly Italian luxury environment.

Boot Space

The Folgore provides 270 litres of luggage capacity, 40 litres less than the combustion-powered GranTurismo. Its battery and electric-drive hardware reduce cargo capacity, but the boot remains usable for smaller luggage and weekend trips.

Exterior

Body Dimensions

The GranTurismo Folgore measures 4,959 MM long, 1,957 MM wide and 1,353 MM tall, with a 2,929-MM wheelbase. Width increases to 2,113 MM including the mirrors, while homologated weight is approximately 2,335 KG.

Front View

The Folgore retains the long-bonnet, low-roof proportions of the GranTurismo but introduces a more aerodynamically optimised front bumper and EV-specific detailing. Its large Trident grille remains a major visual feature despite the absence of a combustion engine.

The large one-piece Cofango combines the bonnet and front wings into a single sculpted panel, while dark-copper Folgore badging differentiates the electric model.

Rear View

The short rear deck and pronounced haunches maintain the traditional Maserati grand-tourer profile. Folgore-specific aerodynamic treatment includes a dedicated rear diffuser rather than the exhaust outlets fitted to the petrol variants.

Headlamps

Vertically oriented full-LED headlamps are inspired by the MC20 supercar and positioned within the front wings. Their narrow design helps maintain the GranTurismo's exceptionally low bonnet line.

Tail Lamps

Full-LED rear lamps combine Maserati's traditional boomerang motif with a newer harpoon-shaped graphic. Their horizontal placement emphasises the broad rear body.

Side Mirror

The GranTurismo uses electrically adjustable and folding exterior mirrors, with heating and automatic dimming available according to specification. Frameless side windows contribute to the coupé's clean profile.

Brakes

The high-performance braking system uses 380-MM ventilated front discs with six-piston fixed calipers and 350-MM rear discs with four-piston calipers. The Folgore is distinguished by anodised black brake calipers.

Regenerative braking operates alongside the mechanical braking system to recover energy during deceleration.

Wheels

A staggered wheel arrangement combines 20-inch front and 21-inch rear Aura-design aerodynamic alloy wheels. Front tyres measure approximately 265/35, while the rear uses wider 295/30 tyres to handle the substantial power output.

Features

Active Safety

Available active-safety technology includes autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian recognition, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Active Lane Management, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Assist and traffic-sign recognition.

ABS, traction control, electronic stability control and tyre-pressure monitoring are also included within the vehicle's core safety systems.

Passive Safety

Occupant protection includes dual-stage front, side and head airbags, seatbelt pretensioners and ISOFIX child-seat mounting provisions. The battery is positioned within the central structure rather than beneath the full cabin floor, helping maintain both protection and the car's low seating position.

Drive Modes

The Folgore provides four dedicated driving modes: Max Range, GT, Sport and Corsa.

Max Range prioritises efficiency, GT provides the everyday balance, Sport sharpens vehicle responses and Corsa provides the most aggressive performance calibration. Launch Control and maximum power are available under the appropriate performance settings.

Infotainment

The 12.3-inch Maserati Intelligent Assistant (MIA) system uses an Android Automotive-based platform and supports navigation, voice control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Over-the-air updates and Maserati Connect connected services are also available.

The navigation system can calculate predicted battery state of charge at the destination and identify suitable charging locations along a planned route.

Driver Assistance

The GranTurismo incorporates Level 2 driver assistance, with functions designed to control following distance and lane positioning during suitable conditions.

Front and rear parking sensors, Rear Active Braking and camera-based parking assistance are also available, with the exact ADAS package dependent on local specification.

Sound System

The GranTurismo is available with Sonus faber audio, developed specifically for Maserati. The standard Premium system uses 14 speakers and approximately 860 watts, while the High Premium option expands this to 19 speakers and around 1,195 watts.

Performance

Engine

Three permanent-magnet radial electric motors are used — one at the front and two independently controlled motors at the rear. Each motor is capable of up to 300 KW individually.

Combined continuous output is 560 KW or 761 PS, while MaxBoost can raise available output to 610 KW, or roughly 830 PS. Peak torque is an immense 1,350 NM.

Transmission

Each motor uses a single-speed electric reduction gear. There are no conventional gear changes, allowing immediate torque delivery across a broad speed range.

Drivetrain

The GranTurismo Folgore uses Q4 all-wheel drive. A single front motor drives the front axle, while two independent rear motors allow precise electronic torque distribution between the left and right rear wheels.

This arrangement allows the Vehicle Domain Control Module to continuously modify torque delivery according to steering angle, grip and selected drive mode.

Acceleration

The GranTurismo Folgore accelerates from 0 to 100 KM/H in just 2.7 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 325 KM/H according to Maserati Malaysia's current configurator.

This makes the Folgore both quicker from a standstill and faster at the top end than the GranTurismo Trofeo currently listed alongside it in Malaysia.

Fuel Consumption

The Folgore uses a 92.5-kWh lithium-ion battery with approximately 83 kWh of usable capacity. Instead of a conventional flat skateboard battery, Maserati employs a distinctive T-bone layout, positioning much of the battery through the centre tunnel and behind the occupants.

The Malaysian model is rated for approximately 450 KM of driving range.

Its 800-volt architecture supports up to 270-KW DC charging, allowing approximately 100 KM of range to be added in five minutes and a 20% to 80% recharge in around 18 minutes. AC charging supports up to 22 KW with a Type 2 connection.

Comfort

Convenience

Convenience equipment includes keyless access, electrically adjustable seats, ambient lighting, powered steering adjustment, wireless smartphone charging, electrically folding mirrors and a powered boot. Exact standard equipment can vary according to the individual Malaysian configuration.

Maserati Connect also allows owners to check selected vehicle information and connected functions remotely through compatible devices.

Rear Air Vents

The GranTurismo Folgore uses dual-zone automatic climate control. Dedicated independent rear climate controls are not listed in Maserati's documented Folgore equipment, reflecting the car's 2+2 grand-tourer rather than executive-saloon layout.

Ride Comfort

Double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension are paired with adaptive air springs and electronically controlled damping. The air suspension can operate across three ride heights, allowing the GranTurismo to combine firm body control with greater compliance during long-distance driving.

The T-shaped battery configuration also helps keep mass close to the centre of the vehicle rather than raising the seating position above a thick floor-mounted battery.

Sound Insulation

The absence of a combustion engine creates a naturally quiet cruising environment, while the coupé body and cabin insulation are designed around long-distance grand touring.

Maserati nevertheless gives the Folgore a specially developed artificial electric sound to add greater feedback and character during stronger acceleration.

Wrap Up

Conclusion

The Maserati GranTurismo Folgore is an unusual combination of electric supercar performance and traditional four-seat grand-touring usability. Its 761-PS tri-motor system, 1,350-NM torque output and 2.7-second century sprint give it significantly more performance than the petrol-powered GranTurismo models, while adaptive air suspension and a usable rear cabin allow it to remain a genuine long-distance GT.

Its 800-volt electrical system is another major strength, with 270-KW DC charging and 22-KW AC charging providing respectable charging performance. The 450-KM range is adequate rather than exceptional, however, particularly beside newer premium EVs capable of substantially longer distances.

The biggest consideration is price. Although launched at RM998,800, Maserati Malaysia's current configurator lists the 2025 Folgore from RM1,038,800, and extensive Fuoriserie personalisation can push the final cost considerably higher.

For buyers focused on value or maximum EV range, there are stronger choices. For those wanting an exceptionally fast, genuinely exotic Italian electric GT that can still accommodate four occupants, the GranTurismo Folgore occupies a much rarer niche.
