MG4 EV

The MG4 EV is a fully electric five-door hatchback currently offered in Malaysia in three variants – Lux, Lux Extended Range and the high-performance XPOWER.

The Lux uses a 64 KWH battery with 150 KW and 250 NM, while the Lux Extended Range pairs a larger 77 KWH battery with a 180 KW and 350 NM rear-mounted motor. Sitting at the top is the XPOWER, featuring dual-motor all-wheel drive with 320 KW and 600 NM.

For 2026, prices start at RM100,888 for the Lux, RM128,888 for the Lux Extended Range and RM138,888 for the XPOWER.

The MG4 adopts a minimalist and driver-focused dashboard with horizontally arranged surfaces and relatively few physical controls.

A 10.25-INCH floating infotainment display occupies the centre, while a separate 7-INCH fully digital driver display sits ahead of the steering wheel.

A slim floating centre console sits between the front occupants and houses several frequently used vehicle controls.

Wireless smartphone charging and additional storage are integrated into the console area.

A 7-INCH fully digital Driver Information Display is standard across the current Malaysian range.

It presents driving speed, battery status, range and other important vehicle information directly ahead of the driver.

The Lux and Lux Extended Range feature leather upholstery, while the XPOWER receives a sportier combination of leather and Alcantara.

All three current variants feature a six-way electrically adjustable driver's seat and a four-way manually adjustable front passenger seat.

The rear bench folds in a 60:40 split.

The MG4 accommodates five occupants in a two-row configuration.

Its EV-specific architecture and 2,705 MM wheelbase maximise usable cabin length, while the rear bench can be folded in a 60:40 split when additional cargo room is required.

A leather-wrapped two-spoke multifunction steering wheel is equipped.

Tilt and telescopic adjustment is standard, while steering-wheel controls provide access to frequently used driving, audio and assistance functions.

The MG4 features distinctive arrow-shaped LED rear lamps that emphasise its wide and sporty rear profile.

All three current variants receive electrically foldable exterior side mirrors.

The mirrors are integrated into the MG4's sharply styled shoulder line and provide a clear outward view for the driver.

Braking hardware consists of ventilated disc brakes at the front and disc brakes at the rear across all three variants.

An Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold is standard.

Standard active safety equipment includes Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and an Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold.

A 360-degree Surround View Camera is also standard across the Lux, Lux Extended Range and XPOWER.

All three variants receive six airbags comprising driver and front passenger airbags, side airbags and curtain airbags.

ISOFIX child-seat anchorage points and a tyre repair kit are also standard.

The MG4 features three selectable levels of kinetic energy recovery through its KERS regenerative braking system.

One-Pedal Drive is also standard, allowing stronger regenerative deceleration while returning energy to the battery.

MG Pilot provides Active Emergency Warning and Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Door Opening Warning and Driver Attention Alert.

Also included are Intelligent Headlamp Control, Lane Change Assist, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Speed Alert System and Traffic Jam Assist.

As a fully electric vehicle, the MG4 uses electric motors instead of a conventional combustion engine.

The Lux uses a rear-mounted motor producing 150 KW (203 PS) and 250 NM, while the Lux Extended Range increases output to 180 KW (245 PS) and 350 NM.

The XPOWER uses two electric motors to produce a combined 320 KW (435 PS) and 600 NM.

The MG4's electric motors deliver their output through an electric reduction drive rather than a conventional multi-speed combustion-engine transmission.

This provides immediate torque delivery without conventional gear changes.

The Lux and Lux Extended Range use rear-wheel drive, providing a rear-driven layout uncommon among similarly positioned electric hatchbacks.

The XPOWER adds a second motor to create a four-wheel-drive system for substantially greater traction and performance.

The Lux accelerates from 0-100 KM/H in 7.7 seconds, while the more powerful Lux Extended Range completes the sprint in 6.1 seconds.

At the top of the range, the 320 KW XPOWER reaches 100 KM/H from standstill in just 3.8 seconds.

Being fully electric, the MG4 consumes no petrol or diesel.

The Lux uses a 64 KWH NCM battery and delivers up to 435 KM of WLTP range, while the Lux Extended Range uses a larger 77 KWH NCM unit for up to 520 KM.

Despite its higher performance, the XPOWER uses the same 64 KWH battery as the Lux and offers up to 385 KM WLTP.

All three support 11 KW AC charging and up to 135 KW DC charging, while Vehicle-to-Load functionality is also standard.

Convenience equipment includes single-zone automatic climate control, wireless smartphone charging, three USB ports, a 12 V socket and an Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold.

Also standard are One-Pedal Drive, three-level regenerative braking, Vehicle-to-Load capability, illuminated charging port and a 360-degree Surround View Camera.

MG iSMART further enables remote vehicle functions and connected services through a smartphone.

Dedicated rear air-conditioning vents are not listed in the current Malaysian MG4 equipment specification.

Cabin cooling is handled by the standard single-zone automatic climate-control system.

All three variants use MacPherson strut front suspension paired with a five-link multi-link rear arrangement.

The chassis also benefits from near 50:50 weight distribution and the low positioning of its battery pack, contributing to stable cornering and balanced handling.

The fully electric drivetrain operates without the engine noise and vibration associated with a combustion-powered hatchback.

Dedicated acoustic glazing or an active noise-cancellation system is not listed in the current Malaysian specification.
